Peter O’Sullevan Bronze Bust

Commissioned by The Jockey Club
for Aintree Racecourse in 2016

Cold Cast Bronze Resin

Shortly before Christmas I was approached by The Jockey Club who where helping to create  The Peter O’Sullevan Community Hub at Aintree Racecourse, an onsite community facility designed to focus and teach the community about horse-racing, the Grand National and Jockey Club roots.

I was commissioned to produce this 1 1/2 size bust of Sir Peter which is located in the entrance hall of the new facility to greet visitors.

A unique  feature of the statue is the use of a recorded message which will play when a button in the plinth is pressed. Created by friend and impressionist Rory Bremner the message captures Sir Peters unique voice and sense of humour.
You can get a flavour of how this will sound by visiting the following link and listening to Rory’s audio recording at Sir peters Memorial Service.

Nigel Payne, director of Sir Peters ‘The Voice of Racing’ charity congratulated Stephen on achieving a stunning likeness of  his friend  at the opening event in November.

“Working with team at The Jockey Club to create the bust of Sir Peter O’Sullevan was a deeply satisfying project. I very much enjoyed capturing Sir Peters wry smile and trademark Trilby hat.  It means that visitors to the Hub at Aintree Racecourse  will be welcomed by this legend of horse-racing for many years to come.”
